Maternity Bump & Baby Photography

‘From the moment they placed you in my arms, you snuggled into my heart.’

First of all congratulations! If you’re reading this you’re probably pregnant or have a new baby!brown leaves

I LOVE being a Surrey based maternity and baby photographer – it’s that gorgeous newborn baby smell, seeing all those little folds and creases and capturing the wonderful growing bond between mummy/daddy and their precious new baby. I am in awe of these little miracles and seeing them always makes me broody again!

Allow me to tell you how I can capture these special times that pass so quickly – let me capture your beautiful maternity bump, the details of your newborn baby’s tiny fingers and toes, those first few days of life when you are getting to know your precious newborn baby and the following months when everyday your baby learns something new. The first year is the most incredible (and fast!) year of all your lives! Typical milestones for development (although remember all babies are unique and develop at their own pace!) are 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. Your baby will start to smile, lie on their tummy, sit up unaided, crawl, and may even start to toddle!

I undertake most of my maternity bump and baby photography sessions in Surrey, but happy to travel for baby photography to other counties like Berkshire, West Sussex and South London.

Some key stages you may wish to consider recording during your pregnancy and the first 12 months are as follows:

Maternity Bump Photography

small brown leaves I like to schedule a maternity photography session when mothers-to-be reach approximately 35 weeks. At this stage you’ve got a wonderful blooming bump, and are still relatively (!) comfortable. It also means I can show you your portraits about a week later so we have a bit of breathing space before you put your feet up and wait for your baby to arrive!  Your comfort is most important to me, please be assured that this is my priority during our maternity photography session. I strive to not only capture beautiful moments for you and your partner, but also make the experience enjoyable and comfortable. As a woman myself, I also understand the strong desire for your portraits to be as flattering as possible.

We mostly meet up at a location close to your home for the maternity photography shoot, where we don’t need to move about too much, and you can rest in between shots. Clothing suggestions will be discussed during our telephone consultation, but again, your comfort level determines which clothing pieces are used.

Your partner and previous children are more than welcome to join you for portraits as well.

Newborn baby photography – within the first 2 weeks

This is a unique opportunity to take some wonderful sleepy shots of your newborn baby curled up both on a blanket and in your arms. It’s also a great time to take some close ups of your baby’s tiny hands and feet with the contrast of your hands against them. In years to come it’ll be hard to remember how tiny they really were! These shots are great to use for  announcement cards and generally telling your friends and family about your gorgeous new arrival!

3 month baby photography – Giggles and gurgles!

Your heart will melt when you see your baby’s first smile around 2-3 months – all the sleepless nights will be (almost) forgotten!  It’s lovely to capture your baby doing some tummy time showing how clever they are now lifting their head!

Around this time your baby will be able to sit unaided, then will start to crawl and move on to stand and walk with your help.  These are great milestones to document. It’s fun to bring along some favourite toys like books, building blocks or teddy!

Baby photography sessions take about 1-2 hours (newborn babies 2-3 hours) depending on feeding/sleeping!

After the session

After the baby photography session you can give yourselves a pat on the back and a well deserved cup of tea (or perhaps something stronger!) as I head back to the computer to review your images! I then select the very best images to edit and retouch where necessary. I then produce a stunning collection of approximately 50 images that I present to you in a slideshow in my viewing room about a week later. At this ordering session I am on hand (with plenty of chocolate biscuits!) to guide you through how you might like to display your portraits in your home.

‘My First Year’ Baby Photography Package

Because each of these stages is unique, I offer a ‘My First Year’ Baby Photography Package. This includes 3 portrait sessions taken at your preferred times during the first 12 months.  I work with each family getting to know you first, so I can offer you a tailored service based around your ideas and your story at different points along your baby’s journey. The ‘My First Year’ package is priced at £395, and includes one 18″x10″ frame of your favourite portrait from each of the 3 sessions (offering a saving of over £300).   Sessions can of course be booked as individual sessions too from £125(3 months+) / £150(newborn baby), which include my gift of a mounted 8″ x 6″ print of your favourite portrait.

Please see my pricing page or contact me  for a more detailed price list.

Please note – I only take on 8 Clients per month, so that I have sufficient time to dedicate to each Client. I tend to book about 2-3 months in advance, so please get in contact in plenty of time to secure your session, especially if you are pregnant, or have a particular time of your baby’s life that you would like recording.

Safety First

Finally a very important point about safety. Sadly there are no regulations within the photography industry. For this reason I advise you to make your choice of photographer not only on quality of images and price, but also on their training, experience and level of safety. I am proud to have been accepted as a member of ‘The International Association of Newborn Photographers’. As such, I have been assessed to be of a high professional standard and am appropriately skilled to work with babies. You can be assured that I adhere to their strict code of conduct at all times, so when you hand of your precious bundle, my priority will be their safety and comfort.
