Top Tips for Stunning Holiday Shots – part 1

PART ONE – How to Take Better Photos!

Ever wondered how to take better photos? Photography is more than just clicking a button—it’s about storytelling, capturing emotions, and preserving moments that matter. A well-taken photo has the power to transport you back to a special time and place, evoking memories and feelings. Whether you’re using a professional camera or your smartphone, small adjustments can make a big difference in the quality of your images.

Here are some simple yet effective tips to help you elevate your photography skills:

  • Add an object to create interest and perspective – Placing something in the foreground, like a tree branch or a doorway, can add depth and a unique point of view. Another example would be to capture a boat on a lake to add scale.
  • Watch out for fingers on the lens – A simple but common mistake! Double-check that your fingers aren’t blocking part of the shot.
  • Have fun with perspectives – Hold something up close to the camera or really far away. Don’t just shoot at eye level—try getting low, shooting from above, or tilting your camera for a fresh perspective.
  • Capture the details, not just people – A beautiful landscape, a table set for dinner, or a close-up of a child’s hand holding a seashell can tell a story just as powerfully as a portrait.
  • Look for natural framing – Use doorways, windows or archways to frame your subject and draw the viewer’s eye into the image.
  • Experiment with colours – Bold contrasting colours can make an image pop, while softer, complementary tones create a harmonious feel. Pay attention to colours in clothing, backgrounds, and surroundings.

These simple yet powerful techniques will help you take better, more impactful photos—whether you’re capturing special holiday moments or everyday life at home. The most important tip of all? Have fun and experiment! Photography is about creativity, so don’t be afraid to try new angles, play with light, and embrace different styles.

Good luck and ENJOY! 📸✨
