“Nicola Light created the most comfortable and relaxed atmosphere to work in. This shoot was for some social media marketing photos for a play called. ”Harper Regan” at The Tabard in London.

It is about a brave, likeable, defiant woman who’s life is blighted by several kinds of crisis and so one day. After holding it all together, being the breadwinner of her family, a supportive wife and mother. She ends up “day time” drinking in a pub in the centre of Manchester. The story of her out-of-character, lost two days unfolds from there.

It is a really hard tone to get right because this woman is “everywoman”, a normal, lower middle-class working mum. We had to retain an element of normality and class but a look of devastation in the eyes and a look of her being slightly outside of her usual morning habitat.

Nicola worked so very patiently with me to get this look; forever stopping at my request to take the time to look through the images with me to find out which poses and expressions I preferred and then shooting more of those. Nicola took time to capture the same image from different angles and different heights until we had the perfect perspective. Nicola didn’t finish shooting until we were happy we had at least ten we absolutely loved of the nearly 200 she shot.

She really is an actors’ photographer taking time to get everything just right – checking my forehead wasn’t wrinkled, my hands and arms were elegantly placed and I was sitting up straight – on top of getting the correct light, setting, pose and expression. I may look slightly weary and wary in my eyes in these shots (because that is how the character is feeling on this day) but I underneath the character I had the best fun with Nicola this morning doing this! She’s great at photos and also the best person to go daytime drinking with… even if it was just me having the odd sip of the “prop” wine. Thank you so much Nicola Light you are a superstar!”
