Surrey Family Photographer – Celebrating my 1st Birthday!

Well what a year it’s been for me as a family photographer in Surrey! I cannot believe I am already celebrating the first birthday of Nicola Light Photography! I’ve really enjoyed celebrating this milestone with wonderful friends and family. On Saturday night we had some friends over for dinner and started on the champagne! Then on Monday afternoon the bubbles were flowing again at a party we had with some lovely friends and our little ones. The gorgeous Sue from Sugalicious had made some AMAZINGLY delicious cakes for us – check out the little mini cameras on top – she is so clever!

I’d like to take a moment to share with you some of the highlights of my journey through the first 12 months of business. From a training point of view I wanted to build on the previous Digital Photography course I’d taken at East Surrey College, so I kicked off with a wonderful week at Aspire Contemporary Training up in the Lake District. Catherine Connor who runs the business is a true inspiration and quite simply a guru in terms of running a successful photography business! I will forever be grateful to the start that Catherine, Jane and team gave me! It was an action packed week and set the pace for the following 12 months! I’d also like to mention and thank Siobhan Murphy with whom I spent 2 days a few months later. Siobhan is a fabulous photographer and friend who really helped me learn new techniques, pushed me creatively, kept me on course and remains an inspiration to me. Other training highlights were spending a week up in London at The Societies 2012 Photographic Convention – I attended their Business School, members’ day and countless fascinating masterclasses on shooting, editing and business – my brain was rather overloaded by the end! I am also very proud to have been recently accepted into the Guild of Photographers and the British Association of Newborn Photographers – a great privilege and testament to those who have helped me attain such a high standard.

Last November I expanded my offering and started to offer my Clients a beautiful range of bespoke frames, canvases and portrait books – and I love keeping my eyes open for new ways to bring you the very best range for displaying your portraits.  In March I launched my website – it was an incredible journey creating it, and much hard work but I am immensely proud of the finished site – thank you to my husband Ed for helping to create it, and for your continuous unending support – you are my rock. Thanks also to my parents for your words of encouragement, and hours of listening and talking through ideas!  Thank you to my friends for supporting me and helping me share my message, and  thank you to my utterly scrumptious children for allowing Mummy to take endless photographs of you, in my drive to push myself daily. Thank you to my ‘Shooting Sisters’ an amazing group of 26 fabulous female photographers which I was thrilled to be invited to join 6 months ago. It’s a daily source of support, knowledge sharing and fun! You girls rock and I can’t wait until we all go on our weekend away in October!

Now leaving the best to last I want to talk about my VIPs… loyal Clients who have entrusted me with capturing their memories. I feel so blessed to have had so many wonderful Clients, who have become dear friends – without whom the business simply would not be what it is today! I’ve had the pleasure to photograph lots of families with bumps, babies, younger and older children,  christenings, wedding anniversaries, a 60th, and a 70th! It’s been a wonderful journey getting to know my Clients, their ideas and capturing their story to remember for the rest of their lives. Every step of creating your portraits is a joy and each time I hear your kind words it brings me to tears and fills me with pride and happiness, thank you!

I honestly feel like I have the BEST job in the world, lucky me! I am so blessed, and can only imagine what the next few years will bring. It’s a treat and pleasure to have you along for the journey, and I hope you will continue with me…..I’d love to hear your comments below.
